From API to IPA
In 2009, I was busy sorting keywords for internet
advertising. I was on the computer all day, every day. Thousands of leads were
passed through an API to a buyer (whom I never got to see). It was a boring,
artless and introverted business. Thankfully, while on a camping trip, I was
given the inspiration I [desperately] needed to sell my business and make dreams
come true for my family and friends with the creation of Dad & Dude’s Breweria
(Colorado’s smallest brewpub & pizzeria).
The Words, scribed on roadie’s third wheel:
This is what you shall do:
Love the earth and sun and the animals,
Despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks,
Stand up for the stupid and crazy,
Devote your income and labors to others,
Hate tyrants, argue not concerning God,
Have patience and indulgence toward the people,
Take off your hat to nothing known or unknown,
Or to any man or number of men,
Go freely with powerful uneducated persons,
And with the young and with the mothers of families,
Read these leaves in the open air,
Every season of every year of your life,
Reexamine all you have been told,
At school at church or in any book,
Dismiss whatever insults your own soul,
And your very flesh shall be a great poem,
And have the richest fluency not only in its words,
But in the silent lines of its lips and face,
And between the lashes of your eyes,
And in every motion and joint of your body.
- Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
Three years later… I have decided to finally approach
my own dream of offering an artistic, rebellious and loving message with a
delicious and quaff-able west-coast inspired India pale ale. Dank means “good,”
among other things. I hope you enjoy your canned goodness.
Cheers!
